Councillor Penny Hulse visits ‘Are We There Yet?’ – Auckland Museum

So much bravery, so many women’s lives that have been dedicated to making change, and you can’t help but
think as you walk around how far we’ve still got to go and we have to dignify
the work of these women by keeping the battle going. I just watched the
Gaylene Preston short film where we’ve got the real
words of the women of the time expressing what the
experience was like for them in gaining the vote, and I just found their
real words so moving. I was absolutely delighted to
see Catherine Healy’s award and, now that she’s Dame Catherine, I love the fact that she’s here front and centre as
part of this exhibition, as a brave wahine toa who’s led so much thought change and I love seeing her here.
