IT’S HISTORY COMING TO LIFE! THE PACIFIC AVIATION MUSEUM – PEARL HARBOR IS BRINGING AMERICA’S HISTORY DURING WORLD WAR TWO – TO LIFE. THE ANNUAL LIVING HISTORY DAY – IS TOMORROW.. Elissa Lines, Executive Director, OR Dr. Shauna Tonkin, Director of Education and Visitor Experience AND Rosie The Riveter… Q-WHAT MAKES THIS EVENT RELEVANT TO OUR KAMA’AINA, WHY SHOULD PEOPLE COME OUT TO SEE YOU TOMORROW? A-This year’s Living History Day focuses on the role of unsung heroes in the nation’s recovery during and after the Pearl Harbor families their relatives were involved in, or affected by, Pearl Harbor in some way. This year our event helps to tell those stories. 2. Q-WHAT CAN VISITORS EXPECT TO SEE AND DO DURING THEIR TIME AT THE MUSEUM? including Shane Sato, a photographer who has made it his mission to document, through portraiture, 442nd and 100th battallion veterans. We’ll have 1940s “Big Band” live music, hands-on STEM activities for the young and young-at-heart, and there will be two Go For Broke: An Origin Story followed by a Q&A with the cast and crew. 3. Q-IF PEOPLE HAVE BEEN TO YOUR MUSEUM BEFORE FOR THIS EVENT, A-The Museum has seen a lot of change through 2018 and we aren’t done yet! Our new layout and the Nakajima B5N2 “Kate” has been added, that’s the torpedo bomber, the type of plane that inflicted much of the damage at Battleship Row. Ours is undergoing restoration right now, but as the exhibit stands it is the most intact “Kate” on display in the U.S. Our second hangar, Hangar 79 also has a new layout and interpretation. But apart from those major organizational changes we make it our priority to see that each Living History Day, September 22, from 9:00 am – 4:30 pm. The event is held in affiliation with Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day Live!, providing free admission for up to two visitors who present a Museum Day Live! ticket.
