New Orleans World War II Museum readies for next exhibit


DRAWS THOUSANDS OF VISITORS TO THE CITY EACH YEAR — EACH WANTING AN UP CLOSE LOOK AT WARTIME LIFE. AND A NEW EXHIBIT — SET TO OPEN NEXT MONTH — IS SURE TO ATTRACT EVEN MORE PEOPLE IN THE FUTURE. WDSU REPORTER KELSEY DAVIS HAS MORE. owen glendening: well we’re in Tunisia at the Battle of Kasserine Pass where we got our hats handed to us. THIS ROOM, A REPLICA OF PORTIONS OF NORTH AFRICA, IS ONE OF NINE BRAND NEW DISPLAYS AT THE ROAD TO BERLIN EXHIBIT. VISITORS START HERE AND AS THEY TRAVEL THROUGH ANOTHER EIGHT ROOMS, THEY’LL SEE DIFFERENT ARTIFACTS, EQUIPMENT, TERRAINS AND EVEN MULTI-MEDIA DISPLAYS — ALLOWING THEM TO FOLLOW ALONG THE JOURNEY ALLIED TROOPS TOOK DURING WORLD WAR TWO AS THEY BATTLED THE AXIS POWERS OWEN GLENDENING: it was a global effort. it was the good guys versus the bad guys. in these galleries, we’re remember what was at stake, which was everything– our way of life, our democracy and our freedom. THIS IS A PROJECT, SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT OF CAPITAL PROGRAMS BOB FARNSWORTH, SAYS IS SEVERAL YEARS IN THE MAKING — AND A PART OF THE MASTER PLAN FOR THE MUSEUM. HE SAYS FUTURE PLANS ALSO INCLUDE A PARKING GARAGE, HOTEL AND ADDITIONS TO THE WAR EXHIBITS. BOB FARNSWORTH: everyone at the museum feels like it’s a tremendous honor to be a part of what we’re creating. we’re building not just a history museum in the South, but one of the great museums in the world. ASSOCIATE VICE PRESIDENT OF EDUCATION AND ARTS — OWEN GLENDENING SAYS THIS DISPLAY — LIKE THOSE TO COME IN THE FUTURE — IS HIGHLY DETAILED AND INCLUDES AUDIENCE INTERACTION TECHNOLOGY. HE SAYS THOSE TOUCHES SET THEM APART FROM A REGULAR WAR MUSEUM — AND DRAW IN YOUNGER VISITORS OWEN GLENDENING: we all have a personal connection to World War II– you do, I do, everybody can find one. but the more distant we get to that down through the generations, the more important it is to sustain that story. that’s what I think we’re doing here. THE NEW ROAD TO BERLIN EXHIBIT WILL OPEN SATURDAY
