  1. On what channels did you find the documentaries? ๐Ÿ™‚ I would really like to see them and I am one of those who like to use paid services, but where can I find it? This gal is from Norway

  2. For documentaries, I'd rec Finding Vivian Maier, who was a photographer that only became famous a few weeks after she died. I had no idea who she was before I watched it, but it's sooooooooo good and inspiring.

  3. For documentaries I recommend Jesus Camp. It's about an extreme evangelist summer camp for children and is quite entertaining but if you analysis it too much it suddenly becomes very scary. The editing is done well and even though there is no narration the easy the different speakers are cut together tells a story on its own. I think it's on Netflix but I can't be sure.

  4. The Secret Life of a Four Year Old on Channel Four has just restarted and it's so entertaining and interesting to watch ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. One of my favourite documentaries is one called Genie (Secrets of a Wild Child), you can find it on YouTube and it's absolutely fascinating!

  6. Ooh documentaries are ace! I have a list as long as my arm to recommend you but I'll try to keep it concise!
Blackfish, Waltz With Bashir, An Inconvenient Truth, Searching For Sugarman, Virunga. Although some might consider them travel series I'd recommend The Long Way Round and Down, if for nothing else seeing Ewan McGregor riding a motorbike and looking fine as fuck whilst doing it!
I could easily go on for a long(er) time, but I'll leave it at this Vice do a fair few of interesting documentaries as well ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. I recommend you check out the podcast app on your iPhone. There are so many cool podcasts on there but my favourite has been Desert Island Discs. It's so interesting to hear about the lives of the celebrities and their music choices which also gives you new music to listen to. ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. I just finished watching Honor Diaries on Netflix. It's a docu about female oppression in Muslim-majority societies and covers honor killing, FGM, forced marriage, and other related topics. It is centered on a group of women's rights advocates who are Muslim, so that helps take it from preachy to very, very inspiring. Definitely check it out!

  9. Other docus to check out:

Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father — You will need a box of tissues. A whole box. No lie.

Miss Representation – The way women are portrayed in media.

Hot Coffee – Remember that woman who spilled hot coffee on herself and then sued McDonalds? This tells the story from another perspective and it seriously blew my mind. I had no idea what tort reform was before I saw this and now I'm full of rage!

Winter on Fire: Ukraine's Fight for Freedom – This one recently destroyed me. It follows the uprising that drove Viktor Yanukovych from his presidency. And what happened after.

Mileโ€ฆMile & A Half — I recommend this one because it's about a bunch of average people who hike the John Muir Trail (219 miles), and it reminds me of your trip hiking through the US. It's so inspirational and despite the fact that I don't like to camp, this made me want to do a long hiking trip.

  28. I was so happy for you when I saw the instagram photo of you outside the Museum of Sex! Also, so obsessed with that shirt! Hope you're having fun in NYC ๐Ÿ™‚

  29. The Cove and Blackfish are great documentaries. The Cove is about dolphin hunt in Japan, Blackfish about orcas in captivity ( it focusses especially SeaWorld).

  30. You should watch a documentary called 'Born into Brothels'. It won an oscar in 2004. It's amazing. You can watch it on youtube(because I'm not sure where else you could find it)

  31. Some really cool documentaries I've loved recently are ,The Secret Life of 4,5 and 6 year olds' and Stacey Dooleys documentary about the dangers women face in different countries, cant remember name ๐Ÿ˜ it focuses on cyber prostitution, violence towards women and loads of other things but is SO interesting!!

  32. I would love to see you vlog! America is usually pretty interesting to vlog about what you're doing that day or what you've already done there!

  33. I've also been binge watching documentaries lately. Two of the ones I really enjoyed were Secrets of Richard III and Secrets of Henry VIII's Palace. Both of them are on Netflix.

  34. There's a documentary called 'Hot Girls Wanted' which was produced by Rashida Jones (from Parks and Recreation) and I found it super interesting! You can watch it on Netflix, or putlocker, and it's about the porn industry. Essentially, it follows a group of 18-25 year old girls, and their beginnings in the industry.

  35. well, I'm Brazilian and there's this documentary director who's really famous and important to our national film industry, his name is Eduardo Coutinho and some of my favorites of his are: Edifรญcio Master (about the people who live in one of the largest and oldest buildings of Sรฃo Paulo, the biggest city in Brazil), As Canรงรตes (interviews of regular people talking about songs that marked their lives in some way) and Jogo de Cena (interviews that mix actors and non-actors telling their life stories. it's impossible to know which are acting and which aren't).
and there's another two really, really good ones that are also Brazilian but I can't remember the names of the directors: Tarja Branca (about adulthood and childhood in the modern age, loosing one's inner child and the ability to play) and Janela da Alma (about photography and vision and the poetics of what's to be seen).
hope they're not too hard to find, all the way out there in the UK! if you get interested and can't find them online, get in touch! I have 'em all on my computer (: have a nice day, Hannah
